About ETERNA

Businessmode Shop with Shopware 6

Founded in 1863 as a linen factory, the traditional company ETERNA is synonymous with timeless modern elegance, highest quality, and numerous innovations in modern men's shirts and women's blouses. With its patented invention of shirt collars made from special fabric, the company became the world's first clothing company to be certified with the “Oeko-Tex Standard 100 plus”, and to this day, it remains the market leader in the field of wrinkle-free and iron-free shirts and blouses. ETERNA, as a specialist, leverages deep knowledge of its core range, including high fit accuracy, variability in sleeve length and styles, and various collar shapes, just to name a few examples. With high-quality cotton fabrics and the latest clothing innovations, ETERNA asserts itself as a master of business fashion.

Testimonial Florian ETERNA

Florian Gutsmiedl - ETERNA Mode GmbH

"ETERNA and dasistweb have enjoyed a trusting partnership for many years. The complex processes and demanding requirements of ETERNA as a product specialist have always been implemented in a customer-centred manner with the support of dasistweb. With the certainty of this strong partnership, we were one of the first large online shops to take the step to Shopware 6. Thanks to dasistweb's expertise and the close, collegial collaboration with the ETERNA developers, our B2C online shop has been technically raised to a new level, which means we are ideally equipped for future challenges. Since August 2022, www.eterna.de has been running on Shopware 6 and was promptly rewarded with nominations in two categories at the Shop Usability Award 2023. This shows us that with dasistweb, we have the ideal partner at our side to continue successfully implementing our digital business strategy."

Challenges

The major challenge in the ETERNA project was clearly "Start everything anew, please!" ETERNA was courageous and ready to initiate their TechStack project for the digitization of the company right in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. In a gradual transformation process, the existing system landscape was completely overhauled. As a Shopware agency, we were particularly involved in the first, now successfully completed phase of this significant transformation, where the focus was on E-commerce processes. In addition to our main task of implementing a new Shopware 6 shop with a new frontend design, all E-commerce processes were simultaneously mapped end-to-end in Microsoft D365. Additionally, new systems such as a new PIM system and a new payment provider were integrated.

Project progress and Implementation highlights

"Out with the old, in with the new" was the motto at the end of May 2021! But how do you start? The new Shopware 6 shop for ETERNA had to go live step by step and as smoothly as possible. It needed to become a stable and future-proof foundation for the ETERNA shop and for numerous other sub- and brand shops that ETERNA would operate in the future. Why not kill two birds with one stone and use the establishment of new sub-shops as a springboard and learning platform for the high-revenue main shop? Said and done. The main goal of this project was to migrate ETERNA | Ihr Online-Shop für Damen- & Herrenmode, in all its languages, to a brand-new Shopware 6 platform with an integration into a completely new infrastructure. As an experienced Shopware agency for renowned brands, we always aim to minimize possible risks to an absolute minimum.

With this goal in mind, we set up various levels of quality control, both automated and manual. However, despite our best quality controls and preparations, unexpected challenges can always arise during a productive deployment that can’t occur on a test system without live traffic. To further minimize this risk, we launched an outlet shop on the new technology ahead of schedule. By taking this step, we practically reduced the remaining risk for the smooth start of the highly frequented main shop to zero and successfully launched the long-awaited outlet shop for end customers.

In May 2022, after about 11 months of development, the ETERNA Outlet Shop finally went live as a 'value-added test balloon.' With lower order volumes, we were able to fine-tune and perfect all live processes. Only two months later, in July 2022, the time had come: Two Shopware shops in one instance with integration into a completely new infrastructure had been successfully created in just 13 months.

It's noteworthy to emphasize the successful incorporation of ETERNA's in-house developers into the project, seamlessly aligning them with our processes.
